# How They Lost Izumi Nogami, Minako Sanada, and Sae Hinata had already been having sex with Tazaki because he hypnotized them into believing that having sex with him was the worst thing they could do to him. They weren't doing any of this beforehand, so how could Tazaki have known what they were going to do and already prepared those beliefs? Why would he hypnotize them into believing something about sexual encounters that hadn't even happened yet? He couldn't have known unless he had already manipulated them beforehand. Tazaki had already hypnotized them into having sex with him and manipulated their understanding of what they were doing before the hypnosis they remembered. That means the hypnosis they remember wasn't necessarily the beginning of his plan. He had already gotten inside their heads before they realized they were being manipulated. Then Tazaki's behavior when they confront him should have raised another red flag. He supposedly doesn't even realize that the notebook is gone until they confront him hours later. But that notebook was literally the reason Tazaki was able to escape their abuse in the first place. It played a crucial role in his plan, so it makes little sense that he would simply forget about it for hours, especially when it contained information that could expose everything. His reaction is even more suspicious. Staying calm and playing dumb could simply be him trying to deceive them, but he's literally smiling while they're telling him what should be devastating news and even seems like he's trying not to laugh. In my opinion, that should have made Izumi question whether his apparent confusion was another act. If Izumi, Minako, and Sae had figured all of this out, they could have refused to follow the notebook's instructions and turned the tables on Tazaki. And considering the dinner scene with the authors, that would have ended very badly for him. The scene establishes that if Tazaki had made different decisions, he could have suffered a horrible fate, with some outcomes involving torture, grape 🍇 or waterboarding. Tazaki's entire plan depended on them believing the notebook. If they had questioned it, exposed his manipulation, and figured out what he was actually doing, they would have definitely tortured him brutally.
